The San: at the roots of the Great Human Migration

The San people (still sometimes called "Bushmen") are thought to be the most ancient living modern humans. They have lived in southern parts of Africa for perhaps as much as 80'000 years as hunter- gatherers, honing their survival skills in a very harsh environment to levels unparalleled in any other human population. Their unique clicking languages and their astonishing method of healing through trance dancing have made them a source of worldwide fascination. Yet these peaceful people are far from immune to the problems of the modern world and have faced oppression, discrimination and eviction from their homelands.
